Some Halloween Fun

I have two final Halloween cards to show you. Both of these were from the same template, a 12" x 12" folded in half with a circle pop out.

A Most Beautiful Neice - Creative Scrappers #241

After an extended holiday from the blog - I return with a most beautiful layout of my niece. She is such a brilliant, defined person. I am honoured to know her. This photo was taken after she had her hair specially done. I think she is beautiful inside and out. I based this layout on the Creative Scrappers Sketch #241. I am going to enter this into their challenge Creative Scrappers Blog

On this layout I had the opportunity to work with a Dusty Attic Chipboard that I have been dying to play with. I also added some new molding paste to add great texture.

 I am using beautiful paper from Close to My Heart. It is a great smokey plum colour.

 AND, another Dusty Attic addition! A FAIRY! I painted her, stamped her, glued beads on her, and took the cello wrap packaging and made beautiful ethereal wings. So fun!

 I used lots of Prima flowers. The purple ones were originally creme colour. I used a paint brush and ink to paint the petals.

 I thought I would stamp 'enchanting' on the photo itself, as this is how I see her. She is enchanting.

 The words on the background were applied through a mask using molding paste coloured with a mix of brown and purple acrylic paint. This created such great texture.

I used some of this same molding paste on the chipboard flowers.

I worked on this layout with my scrapbooking friends. We gather one Saturday a month and just craft. These people have been so creatively supportive and we laugh a lot! What a gift that is.

Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge - November Sketch

Good Morning Crafters,

Today I have a quick post to show you a layout I just finished of my son when he was a baby. What a little angel. This bassinet was used by my older sister for her son and Mitchell was borrowing it while we were at Grandma's house. I found the sketch on this fun scrap challenge blog called 'Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge'. Here is their great sketch for November. You should drop by and join in!

I used a lot of Prima paper and flowers for this layout - so pretty.

I used a simple white dollie to frame the photo and dabbed on peach, aqua, and pink and then added white liquid pearl. I layered the dollie with eyelet lace and a sprinkling of clear glass beads - some I glued to the photo.

I made the background with this beautiful music stamp, using versamark ink and clear embossing powder. I then distressed the area with a teal/green colour ink.

These little white birds I made by tracing the birds from the patterned paper onto cardboard. I then added a thick layer of gesso and set in various white beads and white button. I loved how they turned out!

This pink flower I made using pink lace and pink velvet ribbon glued onto a circle of cardstock.

This page was tons of work but was really fun to complete. I hope you enjoy taking a look at all the details.

OUAS - November 'Read it Again Grandpa!'

Good Day Scrapbookers,

Tonight I have a fun layout of my son and his grandpa, my dad. Grandpa George has the most beautiful, peaceful bass voice, and Mitchell just loved to hear a story read by him. This book "Trains" is a book he read to his own son, my brother.

I used the sketch from Novembers Once Upon a Sketch Blog (I flipped it horizontally) as a jumping off point. The theme was 'Anything Goes!' They have the most amazing design team and I always go their to drool over the pages submitted to their site.  I am going to enter this into there monthly challenge!

I used some fun BasicGrey 'Out of Print' paper with lots of fussy cutting. The colours are beautiful and I wanted them to really show up against the black background.

To really highlight the photo I used some white acrylic paint on the patterned paper. Then I used crosshatch brush stroke with a almost dry brush to extend the white onto the black paper.

I mimicked some of the funky edges of the cutouts on the perimeter of the black background. I attached the patterned pieces in all different layers using lots of pop dots.

The train travelling along some of the pieces was done with a train edge punch. I edged the black paper with a white pencil and the white background with some book and train themed stamps and a black marker.

BAP October - "Life in the palm of your hand"

Hi Everyone,

Today I have a couple of layouts to show. This one is of our two day old kitten! Our house cat Carley ran away from home. We were devastated until 2 weeks later when see came back to our front door crying to get in. It didn't take too long to figure out she was pregnant. Four beautiful kittens were born on Oct 9th. We were excited and we have found homes for all but one already.

This layout follows the Prima BAP October Sketch. I rotated it clockwise.

Mitchell my son, is holding this precious baby in his hands. She was so small.

I really went to town using Prima's Fairie Belle Collection - La Spa , Prima flowers and pink and gold bead accents!

I fussy cut the Fairy Ballerina and then added pink, gold and copper beads to her skirt. 

I added pink Stickles on the Prima flowers and the tiny bird.

To make the splash I used a combination of pink and gold paint mixed with white glue. I painted this mixture on the page, set the large beads in place and then sprinkled micro beads to fill in the open areas.

It has been a real learning experience having these little kittens in our house. I think it has been good for Mitch to feel the responsibility of holding a 'life in the palm of your hand'.

J-hop with Scrap365 Sketch365 September Challenge

Good Day All!
Today I am showing you a scrapbook page that, I think, perfectly depicts my son and his love/obsession with BMX biking. All winter he waits and waits to get his bike out and take to the streets, curbs, skate parks, wherever!

These photos I shot of Mitch doing J-hops in our driveway and on our front street. I love the look of focus on his face!

The layout is based on a great sketch I found at Scrap365 and their Sketch 365 Contest blog. I love, LOVE, LOVE their magazine. There designers and contributors are fantastic. I will link this up for the September Sketch Challenge just for fun!

Now, besides loving his BMX, he also loves his skateboard shoes. He goes through at least one pair every summer. Every pair is differently coloured and super trendy - according to Mitch and West 49 where he purchases them. The ones here are purple.

One pair of shoes he got where called 'Grenades' and they came in this fabulous box with a grenade punch out on the lid and cool printed tissue paper inside. Of course I kept it! And used the grenade punch out and pieces of the box and tissue on the page. How fun!

The 3 pictures on the side are the 'action' shots of him going down the driveway. I printed them on photo paper and torn the right edge of all of them to add to the grunge look.

I also cut out a tire tread from a card stock page and used that as a mask at the bottom of the page. I mixed gesso with brown and grey acrylic paint.

I put on cardboard cuttings from the box, flowers and metal findings and painted them all a dark olive green. The monochromatic background of the page really makes his red bike pop out of the page.

I used a chicken wire mask for the first layer. Then the grenade mask. Here I used some glimmer glam to make the colours have a shine. Then I took a black sharpie marker and put in some detail.

The Shabby Tea Room #126 - Soft Neutrals, Birthday Card

Good Day To You ALL,
Today I thought I would join in at The Shabby Tea Room #126 - Soft Neutrals. I have not entered in ages and the birthday card I made for a dear girlfriend fit the bill. I began with Kraft paper in a square card shape with a beautiful scalloped fold-over flap. I ran some 'brown bag' ink over a cuttlebug folder and then embossed the front panel of the card.

I found a vintage postcard on 'Graphics Fairy', - what a great site this is! I cut some cream/rose patterned paper with an edge punch (ek) and a swirl punch (Tim Holtz) to add in behind the postcard. Then I tied some jute string around the postcard.

I used my Spellbinders to cut out the petals and then folded and inked them to create the beautiful rose and bud. I also added some liquid glass (not quite dry in my photo) for dew drop effects.

I found some buttons to glue on and some pink fibre to use to make a wrap-around closure. Of course, you can't forget the lace - the final touch of vintage goodness!

Up, Up, & Away! Packing for a Trip to Grandmas

Good day all!
After a long spring/summer in my garden (and trying to plan a renovation of our Master Bathroom) I am returning to "crafting land". I have been scrapbooking in the background, I never really stop that . . . but I have not posted anything here for you to see. So over the next couple of weeks I will try to bring you up-to-date on all my projects.

Today I have a fun page with my son when he was about 8 months old. He always thought he was so funny, and would make himself laugh with his little games and antics. Here I was trying to pack to go to your grandparents house, running around like crazy! Then I turned around and you had got yourself into the suitcase. I started to laugh -  you thought you were so clever!

I ran to get the camera and caught you!

The background paper is this beautiful paper with flocked pattern in teal. How gorgeous!

I hand cut out, stamped and inked the photo negative stripe border for the action shoots. This navy linen paper is so dark I thought it would really highlight the photos.

Of course I had to add flowers and some fun ribbon and trim. And a postcard with the journalled story.

Another one done for the album!
